Thank you for visiting the Cambridge Art Therapy site.
Cambridge Art Therapy comprises four registered art therapists; we work independently but share policies, approach and group supervision. We have a variety of contracts with adults, children and young people, in schools, NHS, local authorities and charities, as well as private clients.
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy which uses art media as a key mode of communication. It involves a combination of using art materials, reflecting and talking. There is no need for clients to be ‘good at art’, and no judgements are made about the quality of the artwork. The process is the important thing, as well as clients’ feelings and ideas about images or objects they make.
Because art psychotherapy is not wholly dependent on words, it can particularly help people who find verbal therapy difficult. It has been found to be beneficial for anxiety, depression, isolation, loss, self-harming, addiction, attachment issues and outcomes of abuse and trauma. It has also proven successful treatment for different forms of psychosis and personality disorders.
